Board of Trustees, PNC's and Department Commandants -

We received word today that the White House has accepted our invitation to address the Marine Corps League membership at the National Convention in Albuquerque. The President has a scheduling conflict and Vice President Cheney has indicated that he is looking forward to joining us for the Joint Opening Session on Monday morning.

I am sure I don't have to tell you what a positive reflection this is on the Marine Corps League and all the great things our Divisions, Departments and Detachments are doing all over the country. The League joins the ranks of the American Legion, VFW, DAV and the other major VSO's in having representation from the White House at our Convention.

We are proud of the opportunity to host the Vice President in Albuquerque and look forward to seeing you all there.

Semper Fidelis -

84th National Convention
August 5th - 11th 2007
Albuquerque Marriott
Albuquerque, NM.
Marriott Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE WELCOMES YOU! On behalf of the Department of New Mexico and Albuquerque Convention & Visitors Bureau, we are thrilled to be able to host the 84th Marine Corps League National Convention in August 2007.

New Mexico is the Land of Enchantment. We have richness to our land that has been forged through time. It is reflected in our culture and traditions. It is reflected in our food, music, art, dress and attitude. These inherent qualities make for a uniqueness that is our very own.

Our weather in Albuquerque is one of our greatest attractions. We are at an elevation of 5500 feet and are considered the “High Desert.” In August you can expect the daytime temperatures in the 80’s with evenings cooling off to the low 60’s.

Old Town is the prime destination of visitors to our city, with good reason. This quaint shaded plaza has over 150 shops, restaurants and fine art galleries. Old Town is also the home of the Museums of Natural History, Atomic, Science, Rattlesnakes and Turquoise.

The Indian Pueblo Cultural Center is a wonderful museum put together by the 19 Pueblos of New Mexico to educate, entertain and offer authentic handmade Native American arts. The Hispanic Cultural Center highlights the rich artistic and historical contributions of Hispanics.

And NO trip to Albuquerque is complete without a ride to the top of the mountains on the Sandia Peak Tramway, which is located approximately 15 minutes from the Uptown area. As you cross red rocks and green canyons, look for mule deer, black bear and golden eagles during the 16 minutes ride to the 10,400 foot top.

Albuquerque is currently celebrating our 300th birthday. Bring the whole family out to our beautiful city to join in on the attractions, sights and sounds of New Mexico. Don’t miss out on our spicy and addicting New Mexican Cuisine!!!

August 2007 - Albuquerque is honored to host the 84TH MARINE CORPS LEAGUE NATIONAL CONVENTION!

RV'ers Note: KOA has a campground within 3 miles of the Convention Headquarters Hotel. The rate is $45 per night. They can be contacted by calling (505) 296-2729 or emailing albuquerque@koa.net.

 From:             Department Commandant

To:                  Membership

Subject:         Convention Report

We had a great time in Boston MA, wish you were all there.  Our new National Commandant is Jack Ryan, Sr. Vice is James Laskey, Jr. Vice is Vic Voltaggio and the new Judge Advocate is Jim Tuohy.  One point of interest is that there will be a six-dollar increase for the National dues.  This will make it $18.00 for dues renewal and $23.00 for new members across the board.  The Department of PA still charges $3.00 for dues.  The effective date is January 1st, 2007 for this increase.  All Detachments that have already been installed, if you are increasing your dues to offset the increase, you must resubmit an installation form with the top half filled out and what your new dues will be after January first.  All Division Vices have been notified of this change, so if you have any questions, please feel free to contact them. Please remember to mail your forms to the Department Adjutant for processing. Also, remember that LIFE membership has an increase effective the same date.  So to beat these increases get your dues in early for the year 2007.  For all Detachments that must raise their dues you must do a new installation form with just the dues increase on it, if you have already had your installation done prior to 2007.

The Department of PA did very well in the awards program. In category three: Ohio Valley took first place, and Tun Tavern took third place: in Category one: Northampton County took first place and First Capitol took third place, and Congratulations to General Smedley D. Butler for capturing the Gil Gray award in the Americanism award. First Capitol captured first place in the Newsletter category. Lake Erie Marines took first place category one, and Turkaly-Richards placed second, in category two Black Sheep took second place, and Bantam Marines took third place for VAVS.  All awards from the Department and National will be passed out at the October Staff meeting.   Please try to have a representative from your Detachment there.

In the personal awards Department, Dick Brown was presented with the Distinguished citizens gold award. Tom Minchin, Bill Hackett, John Moyse, and Kay Kroll was presented the Distinguished citizens silver awards.

On the National By-laws proposals:

Proposed change number one failed.

Proposed change number two failed.

Proposed change number three failed.

Proposed change number four was approved.

Proposed change number five was approved.

Proposed change number six was approved.

Proposed change number seven was approved.

Proposed change number eight was approved.

Proposed change number nine was approved.

Respectively submitted,

Tony DeGregorio
