Ladies & Gentlemen:
I've been holding out for as long as I could..........there are still 5 LCO's that have yet to provide After Action Report information. That said, the numbers are close enough to call final!
After a long, challenging campaign, conducted during tough economic times, the 2008 U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Campaign was able to distribute nearly 16.1 million toys to over 7.6 million children. While the number of toys distributed was down slightly over the past two years, the amount of money donated to local campaigns was more than ever before. We believe that while many people might not have been able to afford purchasing a $12-15.00 toy to donate, they did have $1- 5.00 to spare to help us carry out the program. This year, local donors gave over $11.8 million to support our efforts.
It is readily apparent that America trusts the U.S. Marine Corps and all of our campaign sites affiliated w/ the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots Program; therefore, it is more important than ever that we remind ourselves of our responsibility to properly care for other people's hard-earned money. Unfortunately, we had some cases where people forgot about this responsibility.
The above bold text translates to forwarding all funds raised using the Toys for Tots name and/or logo to the Foundation to be deposited into your Foundation-managed local account. It does NOT mean that funds are deposited into a local account, then a check written to the Foundation for the balance. It does NOT mean that local donations are taken to the store to purchase toys w/ cash. And it does NOT mean that funds are deposited into a local account and then toys or other items are purchased with a local account check. It DOES mean that all funds are forwarded to the Foundation for deposit to keep the donation chain intact, and to enable the Foundation to confirm donor information to the IRS, should they ask. We (most of you) did very well this year. 99.9% of donations to Toys for Tots were processed properly......but there remains .1% of the donations that were not. My goal is to some day report that ALL donations were processed according to the rules and guidance established by the U.S. Marine Corps and Marine Toys for Tots Foundation.
Congratulations on a very successful year. I look forward to working with you again during 2009!
Semper Fidelis,
Brian A. Murray

Washington, DC - January 16, 2008
The results of the 60th annual U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Campaign, conducted during October, November and December 2007, have been tabulated.
The results are: U.S. Marines distributed 16.6 million new toys to over 7.5 million needy youngsters throughout the nation. This was one of the most successful campaigns in the 60 year history of Toys for Tots. Toys for Tots began with a single local campaign in Los Angeles in 1947 and was increased to campaigns in 74 communities in 1948 (the year Toys for Tots was expanded nationwide). Sixty campaigns later in 2007, local Toys for Tots campaigns were conducted in 604 communities covering all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands - the most extensive coverage in the history of the program.
The success attained during the 2007 Toys for Tots campaign is the result of outstanding efforts on the part of the 604 local Toys for Tots campaign coordinators, the Marine Forces Reserve staff and the staff of the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation plus the outstanding support of a broad sector of corporate America and millions of caring Americans. Toys for Tots, the U.S. Marine Corps' premier community action program and one of the nation's flagship Christmas charitable causes, is dedicated to "delivering a message of hope and bringing the joy of Christmas" to America's less fortunate children.
