To:        M. C. L. A. Officers and members

From:   Patricia Engel, Department President

 Dear members

Spring is here with the daffodils, tulips, and azaleas blooming.  Spring also brings dandelions, rag weed and tree pollen.  It is now time to think ahead of warmer weather, vacations and conventions.

First, we must think of May and getting the Child Welfare, Americanism, Civics, VAVS and Rehab reports ready.  I know you all have been working hard all year on various projects in your communities that help children, veterans and their families.

During the North East Division Conference Dept. Judge Advocate Twila Gensel presented a question and answer program that addressed many of the questions that occur while filling out these forms.  Her final statement was to use the KIS method- that is Keep It Simple.

The report process has changed from the past.  The units will continue to use the individual work sheets but instead of making numerous copies of each.  You will transfer the information to a new form “Unit Volunteer Report”.   This form and the work sheets are available on the National Web Site along with the other work sheets.   www.nationalmcla.org  After filling out this cover sheet it should then be sent to the Department Chairpersons.   The Department Chairs then will tabulate and send the results to the National Chairs.

If you have no access to a computer, please let me know and I will make copies and get them to you as soon as possible.

The deadline for Ads for the Department Convention Book and for hotel room reservations is May 24, 2010.

I hope to see you all at the convention.

Semper Fidelis,

Patricia Engel, President

To:  All Marine Corps League Auxiliary Officers and Members.

From:  Patricia Engel, Department of PA. President

The March staff meeting was a great success.  All the seats were filled at our meeting room at Indiantown Gap.

Many items were discussed and acted upon.  One of the main items was email addresses.  Chaplain Sharon Pavey reiterated a plea for email addresses from each unit.  If the President does not have an email known to us, then we need someone in the unit who will be willing to accept the emails and forward the information to the President or Secretary of the unit.  Our goal is that all members will have the information that is transmitted by both the Department and by National.

The National monthly news letter is available to all members.  If any member wishes a copy emailed to them a request should be made to one of the following:

Past National President, Karen Washabaugh kwashaba@comcast.net

North East Division Vice President, Sydney Minchin pamchq@comcast.net

Patricia Engel, Department President at angel2@pa.net

The coupon program headed by Junior Vice President Linda Chamberlain has been a huge success, $21,000 in coupons was sent to various active duty stations around the world.

Sandra Krautheim of the Upper Darby Unit has been sending boxes to Marines who are deployed and will be happy to add others to their distribution list.  If interested please contact her at Theclown@dvol.com

Submissions from Auxiliary members for the Chapel of Four chaplains Award should be submitted to Tracey Killinger. traceykmcla@comcast.net

Joan Hastings advised that National Scholarships applications are due by July 1, 2010 and Department Scholarship applications by May 31, 2010.  These applications are to be printed from the online location and filled out by the student.  Relatives of the student should not sign the application.

Donations of baskets are requested for the MCLA raffle to be drawn at the Department Convention.  We are requesting at least one basket to be donated by each unit.

July 25, 2009

TO: All Marine Corps League Auxiliary Members

Thank you for electing me your president for 2009-2010 I will try to serve you to the best of my ability.

If you were not able to attend the department convention in New Cumberland, PA, you missed a very enjoyable time as it is always a pleasure to meet with the members again and to greet those members attending for the first time.

I have been an MCLA member since 1990.  I joined under my sister Marion who was a Marine during World War Two.  I have four daughters one of which Teena, who is a very active member at Landis-McCleaf my home unit and is now Department Secretary.

I have held many offices at the Landis-McCleaf Unit including President, Sr. Vice, Jr. Vice, and Treasurer.  At the Department level I was Sr. Vice, Jr. Vice, Central Div. Vice, Secretary and Treasurer and have now been elected your President.  I have also served on National Committees and as the National Banner Bearer.

As attested to by the report totals that were given, you ladies are doing outstandingly good work in your units for our troops, families, and veterans.  I would encourage you to continue on and also to find new avenues to explore.

I also encourage you to attend at least one of the quarterly meetings during the year.  There were new faces at this convention which was a delight to see.  Our next meeting will be at Fort Indiantown Gap on October 16-17, 2009.  Room reservations can be made at the Days Inn Jonestown, PA by calling 717-865-4064 if you need to stay overnight.  The President’s Council meeting will begin at 9:00 am on October 17, 2009.

Transmittals are due in August.  Include the unit EIN number, incorporation number and the treasurer’s address and the phone number on each transmittal. The transmittal forms are on the National Website. (www.nationalmcla.org/). If you have an E-mail address please also include this and then mail to our Department Treasurer.

Patricia DeGregorio, 14 Beaver Road, Jeannette, PA 15644-3116.

Lastly, keep all of our military in your thoughts and prayers, God bless you all and the USA.
