Fellow officers,
As we began today, with heavy hearts with the  loss of a fellow Marine, a good friend and Colleague, Ed Ringer, let us remember him while with a heavy heart also with the joy of getting to know such a wonderful person. I know I will always remember the gruffness of his voice, but   also  his  love of our  Corps and League.  I will remember his help with Jag related duties with my detachment, his calls to see if all was going well. You that knew him better will  remember different things about him as you shared time and friendship with him far longer than I did, so you will have even more memories to remember this kind and gentle man as well as a warrior, and a Marine. SO my prayers now will be for us his friends as we must learn to live without his advise and friendship, but his dear family as they must learn to live without someone even more dear to them than even with us. For while he was our friend, he was their family, while he was our brother in the Corps , he was their provider and protector in life, So in our sorrow let us remember them for I can promise you that would be the way Ed would have wanted it.

To Johnny Gill,

You have a wonderful way with words.  I guess you can say that I knew Ed longer than anyone on this email list. We grew up in the same community, went to the same school and along with his brother Jack (also a Marine) played on the High School football team. He was a monster on the gridiron and built like a brick "you know what".  Ed was three years my senior and someone I looked up to and admired. He was tough and gruff even then as we all know him to be.  Not once do I recall him ever acting in a negative way towards me or anyone else.
Ed graduated Hickory High School and joined our beloved Corps.  I followed his footsteps three years later as many others did. I think we had the same recruiter.  Many years had passed before our pathes crossed again and it happened at a Marine Corps League department meeting at I-Gap. I had no idea that he was in the MCL. I would not have recognized him but I did recognize the name. I asked if he was the same Ed Ringer from Hickory Hickory School that I once looked up to and he said "Hell Yes" after I told him who I was. The rest is history.  We had a lot of catching up to do. It also gave me a reason to go back to Hickory for reunions and other things. We always got together.
When I was elected Commandant of my detachment, (Central Bucks)  I asked Ed if he would travel across the state to be the installing officer for me and my detachment. Ed was the Southwest District Vice then.  He jumped at the opportunity and was proud to do it.  I put him up in a hotel and tried to pay for all his expenses including food, gas and tolls. He would not accept any of it. Also he kept me well supplied with Marine shirts and jackets at no cost as well as a couple of my friends that I had served with in the Corps that I had introduced him to.
Ed is mostly responsible for my activities and advancement within the Marine Corps League due to his urging and encouragement.

Now that Ed has answered the final call, I feel that I have failed him in that I`m in Florida with my wife for two weeks and I cannot make it back to Pa. in time to say goodbye. I will have to live with that.  On that note, all I can now say is, rest in peace my friend. I`m gonna miss ya.
