2006-2007 Year-end Report for Eagle Certificates Presented - click here
The Dept. of PA has an Eagle Scout Program in place that recognizes the achievement of our PA youth in attaining Scouting's highest award. The links below will give your Detachment guidance in starting and running this program:
The following guidelines will assist any Detachment that wishes to participate in the exciting program of conferring a certificate to boys from the Boy Scout program whom achieve Scouting's highest award, EAGLE SCOUT.
Those interested in bestowing certificates for the Girl Scout program's highest award, called GOLD AWARD, should contact the Marine Corps League Auxiliary.
Here's how it's done:
1. The Detachment votes to participate in the program at any regularly scheduled meeting. There is a cost factor in providing this program, so a vote is necessary from the membership.
2. Someone from the Detachment should be selected as Chairman of the Boy Scout Committee to bestow the Eagle Certificate; the member does not have to be active in the Boy Scout program, but rather interested in making certain that tomorrow's leaders are being recognized for their efforts. It is easier to get someone who is already affiliated with the Boy Scout program to undertake the job as Chairman.
3. When the Chairman is designated, contact the Department's Boy Scout Committee Chairman, Tom Minchin, or the Department's Vice-Chairman, Bill Hackett. This will assist the Department to maintain accurate records on the number of awards given by Detachments throughout the Department of Pennsylvania.
4. Reports of those Scouts receiving the certificate should be included with the Detachments Quarterly Report presented to the Division Vice-Chairman; be sure to send the Boy Scout Chairman the form on the reverse side so he knows what activity has been provided during the quarter. A final report is presented at the annual National Convention. Whatever is reported to the Department Boy Scout Committee Chairman is the report given to National. If your Detachment wishes, the report can be sent directly to the Chairman.
5. The only expense is that of the certificate (currently $1.00 each) and the time taken by the Detachment Marine to make the presentation to the new Eagle Scout.
6. If your Detachment is interested in starting up a special Committee, contact the Department Chairman or Vice-Chairman. The program is easy to start-up and maintain.
7. Use the form on the reverse side to let the Committee know that your Detachment is providing this service of honoring Eagle Scouts.
8. If you have questions, contact either one of the Marines listed below:
